Terms of Service

Effective August 1, 2026

These terms govern your use of The Starchive — the website at thestarchive.com, the account portal at portal.thestarchive.com, and the browser extension ("The Starchive — Save Page") for Chrome and Firefox — referred to together as "the service." By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

The account you're agreeing to

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority where you live, to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. Tell us right away at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.

What the service does

The Starchive archives web pages you choose to save — through the dashboard or the browser extension — by rendering them in a real browser and storing the resulting page, assets, and a screenshot to your library. Archived content is yours: we store it to provide the service, not to use it for any other purpose. See our Privacy Policy for the specifics of what's collected and why.

Acceptable use

The service is for archiving pages you have a lawful right to access and save. You agree not to use The Starchive to:

  • Archive content you don't have the right to access — for example, by circumventing a paywall, access control, or technical restriction you aren't otherwise authorized to bypass.
  • Store or distribute content that's illegal, infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy rights, or that you don't have permission to copy.
  • Use the service to scrape, mirror, or bulk-archive sites at a scale or pattern consistent with abusing the sites you're archiving rather than personal or organizational recordkeeping.
  • Attempt to disrupt, reverse engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service's infrastructure.
  • Share your account credentials or share links in a way that grants broader access than the recipient you intended.

We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms. Where practical, we'll tell you why.

The browser extension

The extension archives the page you're actively viewing when you click it, and — with your one-time, per-site permission — can forward that site's session cookies so the page is captured exactly as you see it signed in. You're responsible for only using this on accounts and sites you're authorized to access. Full detail on what the extension does and doesn't collect is in the Privacy Policy.

Billing and trials

New accounts get a 14-day free trial; no credit card is required to start one. After the trial, continuing to use the service requires an active subscription, billed monthly starting at $5/month for your first 100 archives, plus $1/month per additional 50 archives — your bill scales automatically with your archive count. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. You can view invoices and manage or cancel your subscription at any time through the self-serve billing portal.

Fees already charged are non-refundable except where required by law. If your subscription lapses — including at the end of a trial you didn't convert — your archives are kept for a 45-day grace period so you can resubscribe before anything is deleted.

Your content, and what we do with it

You retain ownership of everything you archive. We don't claim any rights to it beyond what's needed to store it and provide it back to you — we don't sell it, scan it for advertising, or share it with anyone except where you explicitly create a share link, or where required by law. You're responsible for the legality of what you choose to archive.

Service availability

We work to keep the service reliably available — archives are synced across redundant, load-balanced infrastructure specifically so a single server issue doesn't take your library offline — but the service is provided on an "as available" basis, without a guaranteed uptime commitment. We'll do our best to give notice of planned maintenance that could cause downtime.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Starchive is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including loss of data, loss of access to an archive, or loss of business, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.

Termination

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deleting your account permanently deletes your archives, folders, invoices, subscription records, and audit history, and cancels any active subscription — this cannot be undone. We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these terms, non-payment, or to comply with a legal obligation.

Changes to these terms

If we make a material change to these terms, we'll update the effective date above and, where practical, notify account holders. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, and any dispute arising from them or from the service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New York.
